F/V Blue Gill
Ketchikan, AK
United States
Captain Robert Widmyer trolls for King (Chinook) salmon on his vessel, the F/V Blue Gill. He lands the fish in Ketchikan (pictured to the left), the southeastern-most city in Alaska. Originally established as a fishing camp, Ketchikan is now popularly known as the "Salmon Capital of the World." It is home to many troll fishermen like Captain Robert, who bait and then pull one or more fishing lines and move quite slowly through the water to hook the fish. There is generally little or no bycatch when salmon is caught with troll gear.
