Born and raised in San Diego, Captain Tommy Scherl started fishing as a kid in 1987 by working his way up in San Diego's sportfishing fleet. In 2005 he bought the F/V Tracer and operated it out of the sportfishing company, H&M Landing. During this time Captain Scherl earned a reputation for consistently being on top of albacore. As a result of his knack for always getting high counts of fish for his customers, he quickly became one of H&M's top fishermen. He converted the Tracer to commercial fishing in 2011 and to no one's surprise, designated it an albacore boat. Today he fishes albacore in the Pacific Northwest, mainly off Oregon and Washington. He is a single father to a 9-year-old daughter, whom he says cannot wait to join Dad on the high seas. Dad can't wait either. Captain Scherl says as soon as his girl fits properly into a survival suit (her frame is still a bit too small), he'll teach her the business.
